How to play Stitch
Read the counts: each number beside a row or above a column is a run of stitched squares in that line, in order, with at least one bare square between runs.
Tap a square to stitch it, or drag along a row or column to stitch a whole run; tap a stitch again to take it out.
Hold a square (or switch to BARE) to mark it with a dot when you know it stays bare.
Work line by line: stitch the squares that every way of placing the runs agrees on, and let each answer unlock the crossing lines.
Finish the pattern and the motif appears in thread colours in a wooden hoop. Stuck? CHECK unpicks every mistake for a 15-second penalty.
Stitch all three hoops, frame them as a sampler and share it. Play again for three new patterns.
Controls
| Input | Action |
|---|---|
| Touch: tap a square | Stitch it (or take out a stitch or a bare mark) |
| Touch: hold a square | Mark it bare (a dot) |
| Touch: drag along a row or column | Stitch, or mark after a hold, a whole run |
| Touch: STITCH | BARE, CHECK | Swap what a tap does; unpick mistakes (tap twice, +15 s) |
| Mouse: click, hold, drag | The same as touch |
| Arrow keys or WASD | Move the cursor |
| Space (hold to keep going) | Stitch the square, or a run as you move |
| X, M, C, P | Mark bare (hold for a run), switch the tool, check (press twice), pause |
Tips
Start with the big numbers: a 7 in a row of 8 must cover the six middle squares however you slide it, so stitch those first.
Count the minimum: add up a line's runs plus one gap between each. If that fills the line exactly, every square is decided.
A 0 means the whole line stays bare: mark it, and every column it crosses gets easier.
Every motif is mirror-symmetric, so the first and last columns have the same counts, and so do the second and second to last. Use it to check your work, but let the counts prove each square.
Mark the squares you know are bare. Those dots stop a run from sliding and are often what unlocks the hardest lines.
Use CHECK sparingly: 15 seconds is cheap when you are truly stuck, but a careful count is usually faster.
About Stitch
Stitch is a free nonogram with a needlework twist: a picture logic puzzle where the numbers along each row and column tell you how many squares to fill, and the filled squares draw a hidden motif. Every game deals three hoops, a gentle 5×5, an 8×8 and a 10×10, printed like a cross-stitch chart with its thread counts in the margins. Stitch every cross the counts call for and the pattern comes to life: the red working stitches re-stitch themselves in a colourway of thread into a little embroidered motif, outlined, filled and finished with French knots, set in a wooden hoop. The three patterns are drawn fresh for every game, so you can play as many as you like and will practically never stitch the same set twice. It plays in your browser with no download, and a set takes about five minutes.
If you have never solved a picture cross puzzle (people also call them griddlers, Picross-style puzzles or paint by numbers logic puzzles), the first hoop teaches you in fifteen seconds. Each number is a run of stitches in that row or column, in order: a row counted 3 1 has three stitched squares in a row, then at least one bare square, then one more. Look for lines where the runs can only fit one way, stitch the squares that every possible placement agrees on, and mark the squares that must stay bare. Every answer in a row helps the columns it crosses, and the motif builds up square by square. No guessing is ever needed: before a pattern reaches you, a solver proves that it has exactly one solution that pure line logic finds. Like a traditional sampler motif, every pattern is mirror-symmetric, which is a fair hint once you spot it.
Fresh puzzles never mean a lucky or unlucky draw. Every pattern is graded before it is dealt, by how full it is, how many counts it prints, how many rounds of line-by-line reasoning it takes and how many strokes a careful stitcher needs, and only patterns inside the same band for their size are kept. So every set is as hard as any other, and the leaderboards compare players, not puzzles. Mistakes are forgiving too. Nothing tells you right away, just as on a real chart, so you can fix a stray stitch yourself; a row whose stitches already match its counts fades its numbers. When you are stuck, CHECK unpicks every wrong square of the hoop for a 15-second penalty.
Your score is the number of hoops you finish and your time, and your set goes on the leaderboards of our competitive games: hoops first, then time, with top scores verified by replaying them on our servers. The end card frames your three motifs as a cross-stitch sampler, and the share line reads like Stitch 🧵 3/3 · 4:12 · no mistakes with a tiny emoji picture of the first hoop, ready to paste into a group chat. Stitch is a long game, so you can pause it and come back to it, and the moment you finish, Play again deals three new patterns.
Stitch plays the same on a phone or a computer. On a phone, tap a square to stitch it, hold it to mark it bare, and drag along a row or column to stitch a whole run; the squares stay big enough to tap even on the 10×10. With a mouse, click, hold and drag the same way; on a keyboard, the arrow keys move a cursor, Space stitches (hold it to stitch a run), X marks a square bare and C checks. It belongs with our puzzle games, logic puzzles, brain games, relaxing games, mobile games, PC games and casual games for adults, and it is a calm free game to play at work on a coffee break.

Stitch FAQ
Is it a different puzzle every time?
Yes. Every game draws three new patterns, so you can play as often as you like. Two games almost never share even one hoop, and a whole set never repeats.
Are some sets harder than others?
No. Every pattern is graded before it is dealt (how full it is, how many counts it prints, how many rounds of line-by-line reasoning it takes and how many strokes it needs) and only patterns inside the same band for their size are kept, so every set is as hard as any other and the leaderboards stay fair.
What is a nonogram?
A nonogram is a picture logic puzzle: numbers beside each row and above each column say how many squares in that line are filled, in runs, in order. Filling the grid so that every line matches its numbers reveals a hidden picture. In Stitch the filled squares are cross-stitches and the picture appears in thread colours.
Is Stitch like Picross?
It is the same kind of puzzle. Picross is the name Nintendo uses for its nonogram games; Stitch is an original nonogram with fresh patterns every game and a cross-stitch theme, made by Gamefinity and not connected with Nintendo.
Do I ever have to guess?
Never. Every pattern in Stitch has exactly one solution, and our solver proves that you can reach it by reading one row or column at a time, without trial and error.
What happens if I make a mistake?
Nothing tells you straight away, like on a real chart, so you can fix a stray stitch yourself. CHECK unpicks every wrong square of the hoop at once for a 15-second penalty, and each square it unpicks counts as a mistake on your share line.
How is the score worked out?
Your result is the number of hoops you finished and your time, with 15 seconds added for every CHECK. On the leaderboards hoops rank first and time second.
How long does a game take?
Most people finish the three hoops in three to eight minutes: the 5×5 in under a minute, the 8×8 in one or two and the 10×10 in two to four. A set can last up to 20 minutes, and you can pause it.
Can I play Stitch on my phone?
Yes. It is made for a phone held upright: tap to stitch, hold to mark a square bare and drag along a line to stitch a run. It works just as well with a mouse or the keyboard on a computer.
