Tap a card, a sign, then a card · keys 1–6 and + − × ÷ work too
How to play Exactly
Read the target chalked on the blackboard.
Tap a card to pick it up, tap a sign (+ − × ÷), then tap another card: the two become one new card with their result.
Keep combining cards, the new ones too, until one of them equals the target exactly. You don't need every card.
Undo or start over at any time for free; your closest card is always kept.
Hit the target before the clock runs out for 100 marks; within 10 still earns marks. Hand in early to bank the time.
Play all three sums, see how the class did, tap SHOW ME for the shortest answer, and share your row of results.
Controls
| Input | Action |
|---|---|
| Touch: tap a card | Pick it up (tap it again or an empty spot to put it down) |
| Touch: tap a sign block, then a second card | Combine the two cards into one |
| Touch: UNDO, START OVER, HAND IN (twice) | Take back the last sum, put every card back, or hand the sum in |
| Mouse: click | The same as a tap: cards, signs and buttons |
| Keys 1–6 | Pick a card (top row 1–3, bottom row 4–6) |
| Keys + − *(or x) | Pick a sign |
| Backspace, Delete, Escape | Undo, start the sum over, put the card down |
| Enter or Space | Hand in (press twice), next sum, finish; S shows the shortest answer |
Tips
Get close first, then fix the gap: 25 × 4 = 100 is a great start for 103, and a 3 does the rest.
Look at the target's last digit. A target ending in 5 or 0 often comes from multiplying by 5, 10, 25 or 50.
Make the numbers you wish you had: if you need a 12, maybe 3 × 4 or 7 + 5 is waiting in the cards.
Division is underused: 75 ÷ 25 makes a 3 and 100 ÷ 4 makes 25, which can unlock a sum.
Your closest card counts even after you undo it, so explore freely, and hand in early on an easy sum to carry the time into the hard one.

About Exactly
Exactly is a free daily math game and daily number puzzle in the format of a Countdown-style numbers round: six number cards, small ones from 1 to 10 and large ones from 25 to 100, one target, and the four signs + − × ÷. Combine the cards to make the target exactly. Every day brings three sums of rising difficulty, the same for everyone: an easy two-digit warm-up, a medium three-digit target and a hard three-digit finish. It plays in your browser with no download, a whole lesson takes about two minutes, and a new one opens every day at midnight ET, which makes it one of our favourite daily puzzle games like Wordle, logic puzzles and number games.
Playing is simple. Tap a card, tap a sign, then tap another card: the two cards are swept away and a new card with their result lands in their place, ready to use again. Only whole, positive numbers are allowed, so you can't divide 7 by 2 or take a card from itself, and subtraction and division always take the smaller from the larger for you. You don't have to use every card. Undo is free, and your closest card is always kept, so trying things never costs you. The working is chalked on the blackboard line by line, just like a maths lesson, and the school clock above the board shows the time left.
Hit the target and the round stops at once with a red-pen EXACTLY! and a gold star: 100 marks. Miss it and your closest card still counts: within 10 of the target earns partial marks, more the closer you came. Time you save on an easy sum carries into the next one, so a quick first sum gives you longer on the hard one. After each round, SHOW ME chalks one of the shortest solutions, found by our solver. Every day's three sums are checked by that solver before you see them: each one has an exact answer, the first is solvable in one or two steps and the last needs three or four.
Then comes the class. Between rounds you see how everyone else did with the same sum ("71% of the class hit it exactly", "you were one of 9% who used only 3 cards") and a bar chart of how close the class came. The report card at the end gives your marks out of 300, and the share line is a row of gold targets and near misses, like Exactly #12 🎯🎯🟨 · 250/300 · 9 moves, ready to paste into a group chat. Each day's lesson is one go, the same for the whole class, and it puts your marks on the leaderboards of our competitive games, marks first and time banked second, with top scores verified by replaying them on our servers.
Exactly plays the same on a phone or a computer. On a phone, tap the cards, the painted sign blocks and the buttons along the bottom. On a computer, click them, or use the keyboard: 1 to 6 pick the cards, **+ − * / pick the signs, Backspace undoes and Enter** hands in. It belongs with our puzzle games, brain games, quick games, mobile games, PC games and casual games for adults, and it is a perfect free game to play at work on a coffee break.

Exactly FAQ
Is it the same puzzle for everyone?
Yes. The Daily lesson's three sums are dealt from the day, so everyone plays the same cards and targets, which is how the game can show how the class did. A new lesson opens every day at midnight ET. You get one go a day, so nobody can learn the sums and try again.
Does every puzzle have an exact solution?
Yes. Every sum is checked by our solver when it is dealt: the easy one can be made in one or two steps, the medium one in two or three and the hard one in three or four. SHOW ME after a round chalks one of the shortest answers.
Is Exactly like the 24 game or the Countdown numbers round?
It is a cousin of both. As in the numbers round of the TV show Countdown, you get six cards, small and large, and a target, and you may leave cards unused; as in the 24 game, you combine numbers with + − × ÷ to make an exact total. Exactly is an original Gamefinity game with its own scoring and three solver-checked sums a day, and it is not connected with either.
How is the score worked out?
Each sum gives 100 marks for hitting the target exactly, and 5 to 50 marks for a card within 10 of it (50 for one away, 5 for ten away). The three sums add up to 300. On the leaderboards marks rank first, then the time you had left at the end.
What are the rules for the numbers?
Every result must be a whole, positive number: no fractions and no negatives. Each card can be used once, results become new cards you can use again, and you don't have to use all six.
How long does a game take?
About two minutes. Each of the three sums has a minute, and any time you save carries into the next sum, so the whole lesson never takes more than about three and a half minutes. In Swipe mode and gauntlets you play the quick version, with 35, 30 and 35 seconds and never more than two minutes.
Can I play Exactly on my phone?
Yes. It is made for a phone held upright: tap the cards and the sign blocks. It works just as well with a mouse or the keyboard on a computer.
Can I practise without spoiling today's puzzle?
No. Exactly is one go a day, so everyone's marks are a first try at the same three sums. A new lesson opens at midnight Eastern Time.
