How to play Mahjong Minute
Look for two identical bright tiles: a tile is free when nothing is on top of it and its left or right side is open.
Tap one tile to select it, then tap its twin to remove the pair. Tap the selected tile again to let it go.
Match any flower with any flower and any season with any season; every other tile needs its exact twin.
Clear the board for a bonus, then take on the next one. Quick pairs build a combo up to ×5.
If no free pair is left, the game says so and shuffles the tiles, using one of your shuffles. With no shuffle left, the run is over.

Tips
Scan only the bright tiles: dimmed tiles are locked, so they cannot be part of a pair yet.
Take pairs from the top of the stack and from the ends of long rows first: they uncover and unlock the most tiles.
If a tile sits on top of another tile of its own kind, use it in a pair before the others of that kind, or the last two may end up locked under each other.
Shuffles are your lives: on the taller boards, look at what each pair uncovers before you take it, and save the shuffles for when you really are stuck.
Flowers and seasons match within their group, so any two flowers or any two seasons make an easy pair: keep one in reserve to keep a combo going.

About Mahjong Minute
Mahjong Minute is a free mahjong solitaire game you can play online in your browser. The classic tile matching puzzle (often spelled mahjongg) is laid out as a stack of thick ivory tiles: tap two identical free tiles to lift them off the board, and keep going until the board is clear. Then the next board slides in, and the next, climbing from two layers to five and from no traps to many. There is no clock: like real mahjong solitaire, a run ends when you are out of moves. It sits with our other puzzle games, solitaire games and mahjong games, and it is one of our calm, relaxing games.
A tile is free when nothing sits on top of it and its left or right side is open. Locked tiles are dimmed, so the bright tiles are the ones you can take. Numbered tiles come in three suits, dots, bamboo and characters, each with its number in the corner, and they match only the identical tile. Winds and dragons match their twins, while the four flowers match any flower and the four seasons match any season. The boards are stacked in layers: a pair taken from the top uncovers the tiles beneath it, and taking the tile at the end of a row opens its neighbour.
The first two boards are made for learning: whatever free pairs you take, you can never get stuck on them. From the third board, think before you take a pair. When three tiles of a kind are free, the two you choose matter, because the last two of a kind can end up locked under or beside each other. When no free pair is left, the game tells you so, spends one of your three shuffles and deals the remaining tiles into a solvable position again. Every third board you clear gives a shuffle back. Run out of free pairs with no shuffle left and the run is over: no moves left.
The boards climb a fixed ladder: Lotus with 48 tiles on two layers, then Pagoda, Fortress, Tower, Temple and Summit, 88 tiles on five layers, with ever more traps for a careless pair, brought in a few at a time from the third board. Every deal is solvable by construction, and every run plays the same boards with fresh faces and mirrored layouts, so no run is luckier than another. Every pair scores 100 points times your combo: make the next pair within 3.5 seconds and it climbs to ×5. Each cleared board pays a bonus that grows with the board, plus a speed bonus of 50 points for every second under its par of three seconds a pair. Top runs are verified by replaying every move, and the best scores go on the leaderboards of our competitive games.
Want a quick game instead? A 90-second timed version of Mahjong Minute plays in the Daily, where a stuck board shuffles itself, costing a second and a half, and the clock decides. Mahjong Minute plays the same on a phone and a computer: tap the tiles on a touch screen, or click them with the mouse on a PC, and press P to pause on a keyboard. If eight seconds pass without a pair, a free pair glows to get you moving again. Mahjong Minute FAQ
Is Mahjong Minute timed?
No. On its own page Mahjong Minute is endless: there is no clock, and a run lasts until no free pair and no shuffle is left. A board cleared quickly pays a speed bonus, but taking your time never ends the run. A separate 90-second timed version plays in the Daily.
When does a game of Mahjong Minute end?
When no free pair is left on the board and you have no shuffle left. You start with three shuffles, a board with no free pair uses one, and every third board you clear gives one back (up to three). Most players clear eight to twelve boards; careful players go much further.
How is the score calculated?
Each pair scores 100 points times your combo, up to ×5 (500 points a pair). The combo grows when you make the next pair within 3.5 seconds. Clearing a board adds a bonus of 2,000 points for the first, 3,000 for the second and so on, plus 50 points for every second under the board’s par of three seconds a pair.
Is every board solvable?
Yes. Every board is dealt solvable, and a shuffle always deals the remaining tiles into a solvable position. On the first two boards you cannot get stuck at all, whatever free pairs you take. From the third board you can get stuck by taking the wrong two of a kind, which is what the shuffles are for.
Which mahjong tiles match?
Identical tiles match: the same number of the same suit, the same wind or the same dragon. Flowers and seasons are the exception: any flower matches any flower, and any season matches any season.
Is this the four-player game of mahjong?
No. Mahjong Minute is mahjong solitaire, the one-player tile matching puzzle played with a mahjong set: dots, bamboo and characters, winds, dragons, flowers and seasons. Four-player mahjong, whether Chinese, Japanese riichi or American mahjong, is a different game of drawing and discarding tiles to build a hand.
Can I play Mahjong Minute on my phone?
Yes. It is made for phones held upright as well as for computers: tap the tiles on a touch screen or click them with a mouse. It runs in your browser with no download.
Is every run equally hard?
Yes. Every run deals the same ladder of boards with new faces and mirrored layouts, so no run is easier than another, and top scores are verified by replaying the whole run.
