How to play Fold
Look at the shape on the MAKE THIS card: the folded paper has to cover exactly that shape, in the same place on the sheet. Count the little grid on the card to find where it goes.
On the first sheet the shape is also outlined on the paper, to show you how it works. From the second sheet on it is only on the card, so picture the folds before you make them.
Press on the paper and drag it over itself. The crease snaps to the sheet's lines halfway between where you pressed and where your finger is, and the part behind your drag turns over.
Watch the dashed crease and the pale ghost while you drag, and let go when the ghost lands where you want it.
Press UNDO to take a fold back. The paper goes back as it was, but the fold still counts against par.
Match the shape exactly to fold the sheet, in as few folds as par. If you are stuck, hand in a close match (80% or more) as CLOSE ENOUGH, or skip the sheet.
Fold all five sheets before the timer runs out.
Controls
| Input | Action |
|---|---|
| Touch: press the paper and drag | Fold: the crease snaps halfway along your drag, the part behind it turns over |
| Touch: UNDO | Take back the last fold (it still counts against par) |
| Touch: CLOSE ENOUGHSKIP SHEET | Hand in a match of 80% or more, or give the sheet up (press twice) |
| Touch: tap during a verdict | Go on to the next sheet |
| Mouse: click the paper and drag | Fold (judged where you last held the button) |
| Keys: arrow keys | Pick a crease: left and right move it, up and down turn it |
| Keys: Space or F | Flip which side of the crease folds |
| Keys: Enter | Fold along the crease; also skips a verdict |
| Keys: U, Z or Backspace | Undo the last fold (it still counts against par) |
| Keys: H | Hand the sheet in (CLOSE ENOUGH, or SKIP twice) |
Tips
Read the card like a map: its grid has the same 8 by 8 cells as the sheet, and the two darker lines are the sheet's middles, so count from an edge or a middle to place the shape before you fold.
Work backwards from the shape: a straight edge of the shape that is not an edge of the paper is usually a crease, and the paper beyond it was folded over it.
Grab the paper by the edge you want to move and drag it to where that edge should land: the crease always falls halfway between your finger and where you pressed.
Every fold folds every layer on that side, so fold the big halves first and the small corners last, unless the sheet says the order matters.
Take a moment before each fold: undo puts the paper back but the fold still counts, so one well-pictured fold beats two quick guesses.
A slanted edge needs a diagonal fold: drag a corner along the diagonal, toward the middle of the sheet.
Stuck with time running out? A match of 80% or more can be handed in as CLOSE ENOUGH for up to 599 points instead of nothing.
About Fold
Fold is a free paper folding game and a daily origami puzzle you play in your browser. You get a square of printed paper on an origami instruction sheet, a MAKE THIS card showing the shape to make on a little copy of the sheet, and a fold budget, like "make the shape in 2 folds". Press on the paper and drag it over itself: the crease snaps to the lines of the sheet, the flap peels up under your finger, a pale ghost shows where it will land, and when you let go it turns over and lands showing the paper's red back. Match the card's shape exactly and the sheet is stamped FOLDED. It is one of our puzzle games, logic puzzles and daily games: it takes a minute or two and stays in your head all day.
Every day brings five sheets, the same five for everyone, and they ramp up. The first is a single fold of the day's paper, which might be a square, an oblong strip or a diamond, and it is the only one with the shape's outline printed on the sheet, to show you how the game works. From the second sheet on there is no outline on the board: the shape is only on the card, so you find its place by counting the sheet's lines and picture the creases before you fold. The second sheet takes two straight folds, the third needs a diagonal fold, corner to corner, the fourth needs a flap folded back the other way, and the fifth only works if you make the folds in the right order. Every shape is built by folding a real sheet, and a solver checks each one before it reaches you, so every sheet can be made in exactly the number of folds it asks for, and never in fewer. The sheets come from a bank of more than 680 proven puzzles dealt in a fixed rotation, so a sheet you have folded does not come back for at least four months. It is a real spatial reasoning puzzle and a proper brain game.
Every fold counts. UNDO puts the paper back as it was, as often as you like, but the fold you took back still counts against par, so guessing costs you. Fold a sheet exactly in par for 1,300 points, one fold over for 1,150 and two or more over for 1,000. If you are stuck, a shape that matches at least 80% can be handed in as CLOSE ENOUGH for part of the points, and the match meter under the paper tells you how close you are after each fold. One kitchen timer runs for the whole day, 104 seconds of folding, and folding all five exactly adds the time you have left. A day takes a minute or two, which makes it one of our quick games.
Top scores are re-simulated on our servers fold by fold, so the leaderboards are fair and Fold sits with our competitive games. You get one go a day at today's five, the same as everyone else, and after each sheet you see how the day went for them, like "34% folded it in par today · most started with the diagonal". The end card shows your five folded shapes, your folds against par and the day's number, and the share button sends a line like "Fold · 5/5 · 13 folds (par 11) · day 12".
It plays the same on every screen. On a phone, press the paper and drag it over with one finger; with a mouse, click and drag. On a keyboard the arrow keys pick a crease (left and right move it, up and down turn it), Space flips which side folds, Enter folds and U undoes, so you can fold a whole day without touching the mouse. There is nothing to download: find it among our mobile games, PC games and casual games for adults.

Fold FAQ
How long does a game of Fold take?
About a minute or two. A day is five sheets and one timer gives you 104 seconds of folding for all of them; the first sheet takes a single fold, the last ones two or three.
Why is the shape only outlined on the first sheet?
The first sheet is there to teach the game, so its shape is drawn on the paper. After that the shape is only on the MAKE THIS card, and the puzzle is to see where it lies on the sheet and which folds make it, without trying folds until something fits.
How is the score calculated?
A sheet folded exactly scores 1,000, plus 300 when you made no more folds than par or 150 at one over; folds you undid count too. A near miss handed in as CLOSE ENOUGH scores three fifths of its match, from 480 to 599. Fold all five exactly and the seconds left on the timer are added too.
Is every puzzle solvable?
Yes. Every shape is made by folding the sheet, and a solver proves before it reaches you that it can be folded in exactly the number of folds it asks for and not in fewer.
Is it the same puzzle for everyone?
Yes: everyone gets the same five sheets each day (a new day starts at midnight Eastern time), no sheet comes back for at least four months, and after each one you see how many of today's players folded it in par and how most of them started. The three-game Daily deals its own sheets of the same kinds, just as hard.
Does undo cost anything?
It costs folds, not time. Undo as often as you like and the paper goes back exactly as it was, but every fold you make counts against par, including the ones you take back. One wrong fold undone puts you one over par.
Can I play Fold on my phone?
Yes. It is made for touch: press the paper and drag it over itself with one finger. It works the same with a mouse on a computer, and the whole game can be played with the keyboard. There is nothing to download.
