The test runs in Daily IQ, our daily puzzle game. It covers the kinds of question IQ tests are known for: number sequences and letter series, matrix puzzles where you pick the missing tile, odd one out, mental rotation, mirror images, shape analogies and paper folding. The ten get harder as you go, and the answer sheet at the end shows what you got right, the rule behind each answer and how everyone else did on every question.
What the score means, and what it does not
Daily IQ places your result among today's players on the 100 ± 15 scale that IQ tests use: 100 is the middle of today's crowd and 115 is about one standard deviation above it. That is all the number means. A real IQ test is standardised on a large, representative sample, given under controlled conditions and scored by a trained professional; ten puzzles taken in a browser by whoever turned up today is none of those things.
Speed matters only a little: there is no time limit on a question, but a quicker correct answer earns more points, so a confident answer is worth more than a slow one. A wrong answer earns nothing either way.
How to get better at puzzles like these
Most of these puzzles reward a habit more than a gift: look for the rule before looking at the options. In a number sequence, write down the gaps between the terms, then the gaps between the gaps. In a matrix puzzle, check rows and columns separately for what changes: count, rotation, shading or position. In mental rotation, follow one distinctive corner instead of the whole shape.
Practice helps because the puzzle types repeat. After a test, open the questions you missed on the answer sheet and read the rule; the same kinds come back with new numbers and shapes. Between daily tests, Daily IQ's Timed mode deals ten fresh puzzles every time you play it, with a clock on each question.
Common questions
Is this a real IQ test?
No. It is ten IQ-style puzzles played for fun, and the score compares you with today's players only. It is not clinical, validated or standardised, and it should not be used for any decision about anyone.
How long does the test take?
Most people finish in a couple of minutes. There is no clock on any question, so take as long as you need.
Does everyone get the same puzzles?
Yes: everyone who takes the test today gets the same ten, which is what makes the comparison fair. A new set arrives at midnight Eastern Time (New York). The daily test is one go a day; for fresh puzzles at any time, play Timed mode in Daily IQ.
Do I need to sign up?
No. The test runs in your browser with no download and no account.
