About Tilt Games

Tilt games turn your whole phone into the controller. Instead of tapping buttons, you lean the screen and the game leans with you: a marble rolls downhill, a glider banks into the turn. It is the most natural control there is, which is why tilt games feel so physical, and it is something a computer with a keyboard and mouse simply cannot do.

Marble Rush is the classic tilt maze, reborn as a race in 3D. Lean a wooden labyrinth in a sunlit greenhouse to roll a chrome marble through three boards in a row, around the holes, through revolving gates and past magnets, and into the brass cup as fast as you can; the fastest clears go on the speedrun leaderboard. Tilt Glide is lighter and faster: a 3D flight behind a paper plane down an endless sunset canyon. Lean left and right to bank and tilt the phone toward you or away to climb and dive, thread glowing gold rings at every height, duck under arches, dodge rockfall, swinging boulders and bird flocks, and tap to spend your boost on a dash as the canyon speeds up: three hits and the flight is over.

Tilt games use your phone's motion sensor. The first time you play, your browser asks for permission to use motion; allow it and you are away, with no app to install. Play with the phone held comfortably in front of you, and the game treats that angle as level. Both games also play on a computer: the arrow keys tilt Marble Rush's board and fly Tilt Glide's plane, so they are labelled Mobile & desktop. For more games made for touch screens, see the mobile games and the multi-touch games.

Frequently asked questions

  • How do tilt games work in a browser?

Your phone's browser can read its motion sensor. The game asks for permission the first time you play, then uses how you hold the phone to steer.

  • Can I play tilt games on my computer?

Yes. A laptop or desktop has no motion sensor, so both tilt games also play with the keyboard: the arrow keys or WASD tilt Marble Rush's board and fly Tilt Glide's paper plane, with Space for its boost.

  • Do I need to hold my phone flat?

No. The game uses the angle you are holding when the run starts as level, so you can play sitting upright or lying down.
