About the How Many leaderboard

Guess how many jelly beans, sheep or stars you saw in a few seconds, then see how close everyone's guesses were together. Five new exhibits every day.

This board ranks every signed-in player’s best verified score in How Many today. Each player is listed once, with their best run: a better run replaces it, a worse one leaves it where it is.

How a run scores

  • When the curtain opens, look hard for a few seconds while the bulbs around the frame go out. There is no time to count, so estimate.
  • Type your guess on the ticket with the keypad or the number keys. You can start while the exhibit is still showing, and you have nine more seconds after the curtain falls.

How to climb the board

  • Count a small patch, then multiply. Pick a square that holds about ten items, count it, and judge how many such squares cover the whole exhibit.
  • Mind the perspective: sheep and pumpkins far away are smaller and packed tighter, so the top of the scene holds more than it looks.
  • The scoring is about ratios, so on the huge exhibits getting the order of magnitude right matters most. Two thousand or five thousand is a bigger question than 3,100 or 3,200.

Periods, ties and checks

All-time keeps each player’s best since the board opened. This week starts again every Monday at midnight New York time. Today starts again every midnight New York time, with one ranked attempt a day.

Equal scores share a place, and the run finished first is listed first.

A run records only your inputs. Our server plays them again with the same game code, and only a score the replay matches is verified.

The board lists every player, guests under their generated name. Sign in with Google or Apple from a result to keep your scores and pick your own name. Bots, scripts and other automated or assisted play are not allowed (see our terms of use).
