About Diving Games

Diving is a sport of a few seconds: a take-off, a somersault or two in the air and an entry that decides everything. Divers are judged on how cleanly they hit the water, and the best entry of all is the rip, straight up and down with barely a splash, named for the tearing sound it makes. High diving and cliff diving take the same idea to sea cliffs and towers far above the water. Diving games turn it into timing: when to leave the edge, how long to stay tucked and when to open up.

Cliff Flip is our cliff diving game, on sandstone cliffs above a turquoise sea at sunset. A power arrow pulses beside your diver from a short, steep hop to a long, flat leap, and the moment you tap decides where you land: inside the ring of red and white buoys, or on the rocks below or the reef beyond. Hold to tuck into a fast spin, watch the flip counter tick up half a flip at a time, and let go a moment before you are upright or upside down to stretch out for the entry. More flips score far more, a rip multiplies the dive by one and a half, a splash halves it, and clean entries in a row build a combo up to triple points. The spots climb from a 9 metre ledge to 30 metre towers, with springboards, a swinging plank, kicker ramps, back dives and boats crossing the pool. A belly flop, the rocks, the reef or a boat costs one of your three lives.

Cliff Flip is a true one-button game: tap or hold on a phone, or use the mouse button, Space, Enter or the arrow keys on a computer, free in your browser with no download. Endless keeps the dives coming until your lives are gone, and the 90-second Timed version plays in the Daily. For more games of one well-timed press, see the one-button games and timing games, the jumping games for more leaps, the BMX games for flips on two wheels and the sports games for the rest of the field.

Frequently asked questions

  • What is a rip entry?

An entry so straight that the diver slips into the water with almost no splash. In Cliff Flip you rip by entering within about 11 degrees of vertical, head first or feet first, fully stretched out; it multiplies the dive's points by one and a half.

  • How do I do more flips in Cliff Flip?

Stay tucked longer: holding keeps your diver in a tight, fast spin, and the flip counter shows each half turn. Higher spots give you more time in the air, and kicker ramps throw you into a faster spin. Let go a moment before vertical, because a stretched body still turns a little.

  • What costs a life?

A belly flop or back slap, hitting the water more than about 45 degrees off straight, landing short on the rocks, landing long on the reef, or landing on a boat. You have three lives.

  • Can I play diving games on my phone?

Yes. Cliff Flip is made for one thumb: tap to take off, hold to tuck and lift your finger to stretch out. On a computer you can use the mouse button or Space, Enter and the arrow keys.
