About the Pin Drop leaderboard
Five places a day, one blank world map: drop a pin on Paris, Machu Picchu or Ulaanbaatar, see how far off you were and whether you beat the crowd's average pin.
This board ranks every signed-in player’s best verified score in Pin Drop this week. Each player is listed once, with their best run: a better run replaces it, a worse one leaves it where it is.
How a run scores
- Press DROP PIN (or Enter) before the gate closes. If the clock runs out, a pin you placed is dropped for you.
- After five legs, your boarding pass shows your total distance and how many legs you beat the crowd on.
How to climb the board
- Place a rough pin first, then zoom: the + stamp zooms in about your pin, so it stays under your finger while the map grows around it. On a computer, scroll the mouse wheel over the spot you want to look at.
- Use the coastlines and the big lakes as landmarks. Lake Baikal, the Great Lakes, Lake Victoria and Lake Titicaca are all on the map, and most capitals sit near a coast or a river mouth you can find.
- Do not rush the first leg: a pin within 25 km scores the full 1,000, and the clock gives you 20 to 25 seconds per place.
Periods, ties and checks
All-time keeps each player’s best since the board opened. This week starts again every Monday at midnight New York time. Today starts again every midnight New York time, with one ranked attempt a day.
Equal scores share a place, and the run finished first is listed first.
A run records only your inputs. Our server plays them again with the same game code, and only a score the replay matches is verified.
The board lists every player, guests under their generated name. Sign in with Google or Apple from a result to keep your scores and pick your own name. Bots, scripts and other automated or assisted play are not allowed (see our terms of use).
