About the Paint Chips leaderboard

A daily color memory game: see a color for five seconds, mix it again from memory on a color picker and see how close you came. Five colors a day, the same for everyone.

This board ranks every signed-in player’s best verified score in Paint Chips of all time. Each player is listed once, with their best run: a better run replaces it, a worse one leaves it where it is.

How a run scores

  • Look at the color on the paint-chip card. It stays for five seconds, with no name on it.
  • Press MIX IT within 14 seconds. If time runs out, the color you picked is mixed for you.
  • See the real color beside yours, its name, your ΔE and your points. Tap for the next color.

How to climb the board

  • Name the color to yourself while it is on screen, as precisely as you can: "a grayish sea green" holds up better in memory than "green".
  • Notice how bright it is. Memory makes colors more vivid than they were, so when in doubt, pull the saturation down a little.
  • The clock is 14 seconds, but the color fades from memory long before that. Place a first pick quickly, then adjust.

Periods, ties and checks

All-time keeps each player’s best since the board opened. This week starts again every Monday at midnight New York time. Today starts again every midnight New York time, with one ranked attempt a day.

Equal scores share a place, and the run finished first is listed first.

A run records only your inputs. Our server plays them again with the same game code, and only a score the replay matches is verified.

The board lists every player, guests under their generated name. Sign in with Google or Apple from a result to keep your scores and pick your own name. Bots, scripts and other automated or assisted play are not allowed (see our terms of use).
