About the Older Than You Think leaderboard

Which came first: the fax machine or the American Civil War? Pick the older of two, see both dates on a brass timeline, and learn why.

This board ranks every signed-in player’s best verified score in Older Than You Think of all time. Each player is listed once, with their best run: a better run replaces it, a worse one leaves it where it is.

How a run scores

  • Keep a streak going for up to triple points: one miss ends it.

How to climb the board

  • Read the small line on each label: founded, patented and first published can be decades away from when a thing became famous.
  • Companies are often far older than their famous products; many started in the 1800s making something else entirely.
  • Answer the obvious pairs quickly to bank the speed bonus, and spend your seconds on the trap rooms at the end.

Periods, ties and checks

All-time keeps each player’s best since the board opened. This week starts again every Monday at midnight New York time. Today starts again every midnight New York time, with one ranked attempt a day.

Equal scores share a place, and the run finished first is listed first.

A run records only your inputs. Our server plays them again with the same game code, and only a score the replay matches is verified. A person also checks the top 10 scores.

The board lists every player, guests under their generated name. Sign in with Google or Apple from a result to keep your scores and pick your own name. Bots, scripts and other automated or assisted play are not allowed (see our terms of use).
