How to play Pop
Read the caption: each balloon tells you its personality and which of its warnings are honest.
Press and hold anywhere (or hold Space): the balloon inflates and the timer counts up.
Watch the ruler: the hatched band is where this kind of balloon pops. Before it you are safe.
Inside the band, read the tells: stretch marks, trembling, creaks, a squeak or a groan.
Let go before it pops. The closer to the pop, the more points, up to 1,000; holding too long pops it for 0.
See how close you were and where everyone else let go today, then do the next balloon. Five balloons make a run.

Tips
Never let go before the hatched band on the ruler: no balloon can pop before it, so every early release just throws points away.
Count the party balloon's creaks. The third one means it is close: let go within a beat after it, not at the first creak.
Ignore the water balloon's sloshes and the big one's creaks: they are bluffs. Wait for the water balloon's second creak and the big one's groan.
Watch the stretch marks, not the size. Every balloon of a kind grows at the same speed, so its size tells you nothing; the stretch marks and the trembling are what change as it nears its pop.
Tiny usually gives you only a quarter of a second or so after its squeak. Start lifting your finger as the squeak begins.
Points fall steeply: a quarter of a second early is still about two thirds of the best score, but a pop is zero. On a balloon you cannot read, a safe release beats a gamble.
About Pop
Pop is a free online balloon pop game about nerve. Hold the button and a balloon swells on a striped helium tank; somewhere ahead is the moment it bursts, and nobody tells you when. Let go as late as you dare: the closer you get to the pop, the more points, but hold one tick too long and it explodes in a comic POP! for nothing. It is a one-button press your luck game in a bold pop-art comic style, it runs in your browser with no download, and a run of five balloons takes under a minute, which makes it one of our favourite quick games and one-button games.
Each balloon has its own personality, and its own tells. The party balloon is honest: it creaks three times, then you are in trouble. The water balloon sloshes to scare you, but its sloshes are bluffs; only its creaks count. The big one creaks all the time for fun, and only its groan means it is close. Tiny inflates fast and squeaks once, so there is barely time to react, and the mystery balloon might be bluffing about everything. A ruler under the hold timer shows the band of seconds in which each kind of balloon pops, so you always know when it is still safe; inside the band you are reading stretch marks, trembling and creaks.
After every balloon the reveal shows how close you came: how long you held, when it would have popped, and a dashed ghost that keeps inflating to its real popping size. Scoring is steep. Letting go on the very last tick before the pop is worth 1,000 points; on the party balloon a quarter of a second early is worth about 670 and half a second about 490, a cautious release still earns a little, and a pop scores zero. Five balloons make a run of up to 5,000 points, and ranked runs are re-simulated on our servers, so the leaderboards show real nerve, which puts Pop among our competitive games.
The daily twist is what makes it social. Played for fun, Pop gives everyone the same five balloons each day, popping at the same hidden moments. So after each balloon you also see where everyone else let go today: a strip of dots, one pile per moment, a pile of everyone who popped it, and your own release marked, with a line like "4,214 people held this one today, you beat 81% of them". The score card adds how many of today's holders you beat on average, and the share button turns your run into a line of times you can send to friends. New balloons arrive every day.
Pop plays the same everywhere. On a phone, press anywhere and keep your finger down, then lift it to let go; on a computer, hold the mouse button or the Space bar. It is a pure timing game and skill game: no luck in the controls, just how long you can stand to wait. You will find it among our mobile games and PC games too.

Pop FAQ
How long does a game of Pop last?
About 45 seconds: five balloons, each held for between one and eight seconds, a short reveal after each one, then the score card.
How is the score calculated?
Each balloon scores up to 1,000 points for letting go on the last moment before it pops, and less the earlier you let go: on the party balloon about 670 for a quarter of a second early, 490 for half a second and 300 for a whole second (quick balloons are a little stricter, slow ones a little kinder). A pop scores 0. The five balloons add up to a score out of 5,000.
Is the pop moment random?
It is hidden, but fair: each kind of balloon pops somewhere inside the band shown on its ruler, never before it. Some warnings are honest and some are bluffs, and each balloon's caption tells you which to trust.
Does everyone get the same balloons?
Yes, when you play for fun: everyone gets the same five balloons each day, popping at the same moments, so you can see where everyone else let go and how many of them you beat. Ranked runs use their own balloons.
Can I play Pop on my phone?
Yes. Pop works on phones, tablets and computers in any modern browser: hold a finger on the screen, the mouse button or the Space bar, and let go to tie the balloon off. No download or account is needed.
